The Cape Cod style originated with the colonists who came from England to New England in the 17th century. Identifying charachteristics include a symmetrical appearance with front covered entry at the center of the house, multi-paned double hung windows, and shutters. The roof is a simple gable design with a steep pitch creating enough room for second story living space under the roof line. Window or shed dormers are added to make second-floor living more comfortable. The exterior of the home is wood framed with lap, shake, wide clapboard or shingle siding. Frank Betz Associates, Inc.
